Noor is a faith companion for the Muslim community — prayer times, the Qur'an, du'ās, a Zakat calculator, a community space and more. This policy explains what information Noor collects, why, how it is stored and protected, and the control you have over it. We aim to collect as little as possible and to be plain about all of it.
Who we are

Information we collect & why
Account & identity
- Mobile phone number — used only to sign you in securely (one-time-password verification) and to keep your account and synced data tied to you.
- Name and email optional — if you choose to add them to your profile.
Location
- Your city, or your device location (approximate coordinates) — used to calculate accurate prayer times and the Qibla direction for where you are. You can pick a city manually instead of sharing device location.
- When you use device location, the coordinates are sent to OpenStreetMap (Nominatim) to turn them into a readable place name. They are not used for advertising or tracking.
Profile details you choose to add optional
Fields such as gender, date of birth, city/pincode, mosque, occupation, education, school of thought, prayer habit, marital status, interests, Hajj/Umrah status, and whether you wish to be listed as a blood donor or volunteer. These are entirely optional and used to personalise your experience and community features.
Things you create
- Community content — posts, du'ās, comments and your chosen display handle in the community (Majlis). This is visible to other members by design. Posts you mark “anonymous” are shown without your handle.
- Feedback you send us — your message, its category, an optional rating, and the app version, so we can improve Noor.
- Worship activity — for example your prayer log, tasbīḥ counts and personal reflections. This is for your own tracking; private reflections are kept on your device and your own account.
Technical & diagnostic
- App-usage and reliability data — anonymous error reports, basic usage counts, your chosen language, app version, and an “online now” signal so the app works well and we can fix problems. This is processed by us only — Noor does not use third-party advertising or analytics trackers.
- Notification token — if you turn on reminders, a push-subscription identifier so we can deliver prayer and reminder notifications to your device.
How your data is stored
Noor runs on Google Firebase (Authentication, Cloud Firestore and Cloud Functions) on Google Cloud infrastructure, with data hosted in the India (asia-south1) region. Google processes this data on our behalf as our service provider. All traffic is encrypted in transit (HTTPS).
Who we share it with
We do not sell your personal information. We share data only as needed to run the app:
- Google Firebase / Google Cloud — our hosting and database provider (data processor).
- OpenStreetMap (Nominatim) — only your coordinates, only when you use device location, to obtain a place name.
- Content providers we fetch religious content from (e.g. Qur'an text, translations, tafsir and hadith services) and, for the Zakat calculator, public gold/silver-price and currency-rate services. These requests are for content only and do not include your personal information.
- Other community members can see content you post publicly in the community.
We may disclose information if required by law or to protect the safety and rights of our users.
Your choices & controls
- Edit or clear your profile any time from within the app.
- Delete your account — in the app, go to Account → Privacy & Security → Delete account & all data. This permanently removes your profile, settings and account.
- Notifications — turn reminders on or off, and choose which prayers and what sound/vibration, in the app's reminder settings or your device settings.
- Location — you can choose a city manually instead of granting device location, and revoke the permission in your device settings at any time.
To request removal of community content you posted, or to ask any question about your data, email zaheerdv@gmail.com and we will respond.
Data retention
We keep your information for as long as your account is active. When you delete your account, your profile and account data are removed. Backups and logs are cleared on a rolling basis.
Children
Noor is intended for a general audience and is not directed at children under 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13; if you believe a child has provided us data, contact us and we will remove it.
Security
We protect your data with encrypted connections, server-side access rules, secure phone-based sign-in, and an optional in-app App Lock (PIN or biometric). No method of transmission or storage is perfectly secure, but we work to safeguard your information.
Changes to this policy
We may update this policy as Noor grows and adds features. If we introduce new data practices or third-party services in the future, we will update this page and the app's in-store data disclosures accordingly, and revise the “Last updated” date above. Significant changes will be highlighted in the app.
